Information concerning the competition

The most frequently asked questions in clarification of registration and submission of entries to the competition.

Question: Who may participate in the competition “Living in the Mediterranean”?

Reply: The competition is open to all architects working in any of the member states of U.M.A.R.: ALBANIA - ALGERIA - CROATIA - CYPRUS - EGYPT - FRANCE - GREECE - ISRAEL - ITALY - LEBANON - MALTA - MAURITANIA - MOROCCO - PALESTINE - SPAIN - TUNISIA - TURKEY.

Question: When is the competition’s deadline?

Reply: Entries must be submitted no later than 20th November 2008

Question: Is it possible to compete as a group?

Reply: Both individuals and groups may participate. In the latter case one member must be nominated Group Leader and will act as representative of the group in all dealings with the Organisers. A competing group has the same rights as an individual participant.

Question: What are the prizes?

Reply:
Prize for a new piazza: 1,000 euros and travel, food and accommodation expenses for the duration of the Pescara assembly.
Prize for a restructuring of a historic piazza: 1,000 euros and travel, food and accommodation expenses for the duration of the Pescara assembly.
Special prize for a design for a piazza created by a Sicilian architect: 500 euros and travel, food and accommodation expenses for the duration of the Pescara assembly.

Question: What does it cost to register for the Competition?

Reply: Registration is free.

Question: How can I register for the Competition?

Reply: Registration may only be carried out online by completing the appropriate form on the website: http://www.abitareilmediterraneo.org.

Question: How do I submit my entry?

Reply: Entries may only be submitted online via a reserved section of our website which you will be able to access with the log-in name and password which will be sent to your email address after registration. Entries may therefore be submitted only after having registered for the Competition.

Question: I have sent distorted images by mistake, how can I correct this?

Reply: All you have to do is to log-in to the reserved area of the website again and upload the new images as instructed. The new files will automatically replace the previously uploaded files, thus updating your postcard.

Question: I have tried twice to upload my postcard in a 6Mb jpg file but I don’t know if I have succeeded as my personal page always remains blank.

Reply: The system is designed to allow a maximum upload of 4Mb.

Question: How can I make changes to a postcard already designed?

Reply: You may make changes at any time to your project up until 12pm on 20th November 2008.

Question: I can’t access the reserved area in order to proceed with uploading my files. What should I do.

Reply: The procedure for uploading images is as follows:

  1. Log on to the website http://www.abitareilmediterraneo.org.
  2. Insert your email address and registration password.
  3. Download the requisite model files for laying out your documents.
  4. Make the necessary modifications to these files using your preferred graphics programme, e.g. photoshop or similar, and insert your chosen images into them.
  5. Save the file in jpeg format (maximum file size 4Mb).
  6. To complete your postcard, upload the images and texts.
Question: What happens if my file is larger than 4Mb?

Reply: Check that the file is within the RGB colour space. You can also try to reduce the image file size by compressing it in Photoshop or an equivalent programme.
